100 years of the Municipal Gazette: the life in Barcelona the first mitat of the 20th century

posted 28/11/2014

Right from its very beginning - towards the end of 1914 - the Barcelona Municipal Gazette has been providing information on the management of the Barcelona City Council and, in addition, contributing data on life in the city.

It began being published in Spanish under the title of Gaceta Municipal de Barcelona; and the title shuttled between Catalan and Spanish, depending on the historical period, up to the present. It has been published as Gaseta Municipal de Barcelona since 1979.

The Municipal Gazette has just turned a hundred. To mark this landmark, Barcelona City Council has organised a commemorative event, given its importance.

The General Library has made its contribution by digitising a selection of the publication's issues from an important part of its history (1914-1951). Given the length of this series, which had been published solely on paper until 1999, the aim is to continue with its digitisation. The digitisation process saw collaboration from the City Council's Secretariat-General and Municipal Contemporary Archives. Digitisation will help to disseminate and preserve this publication.

Issues published since 2000 are already in PDF-format e-documents. The Gazette has been published solely in e-format since 2007.

The digitised series , from 1914 to 1939, has been incorporated into the ARCA repository at the Catalan Library, which is part of the Catalan Digital Memory.
