STONE FOREST Medieval capitals from the Frederic Marès Museum

A capital originally crowned a shaft, a column, like the top of a tree crowns the trunk. In this exhibition a group of exquisitely executed medieval capitals from the world of caliphs and emirs that date from the eleventh to the fourteenth centuries, from the Romanesque to the Gothic age, can be seen.

Most of these capitals belong to the Frederic Marès Museum. The important research work that has made this exhibition possible was carried out on families of capitals in order to study them and evaluate them in groups.
