The Statistical Yearbook of Barcelona City: 1902 -1911

posted 22/05/2014

Discovering the urban development of a great city

The digital version of the Barcelona Statistical Yearbook from 1902 to 1911 goes online. It is a very valuable book for the city, statistically and historically speaking, and an important heritage resource.

During its first years, the Yearbook was intended to show the municipal corporation's activity and Barcelona's position with other cities through comparative data.

We can find out about the development of the city's climate from 1898 on, pictures of buildings awarded prizes for their artistic merit from 1899 on, municipal welfare expenditure and a report describing the city's development, not to mention plenty of other data.

These are the first years of the Yearbook and, by digitising them, the whole world will be able to learn about Barcelona. It will be possible to do a free text search of each volume.

The first yearbooks are organised round a subject index, provide statistical tables and an analysis of the contents.

These years from the collection, given its age, are now in the public domain, as can be seen from the CC0 licence.

Please note that this material, for the purposes of increasing the visibility and public use of this municipal heritage, is part of Memòria Digital de Catalunya [Digital Memory of Catalonia], a cooperative, open-access repository containing over 2 million digitised documents relating to Catalonia and hailing from several Catalan institutions.
