Barcelona economia, the magazine for discoverins the city's economic and social trends, has been digitised

posted 26/03/2015

Barcelona economia was created by the City Council to provide everyone concerned, especially the public authority, with a management tool capable of reflecting and providing sufficiently reliably the key information required for discovering Barcelona's true situation and economic and social activities and, what is more, for identifying trends and cycles.

The editors encouraged the city's economic development and analysis, by informing their readers of the various economic indicators gathered by the Council's departments and areas, as well as external sources. The City Council's Statistics Department has been an outstanding source of data for the magazine from the start.

Barcelona economia includes what are regarded as the most interesting variables - more or less direct indicators - of the city's social and economic reality. It provides a series of annual data that help to identify the trends and put the combined information in context.

The title of the first five issues, published between 1988 and 1989, was Barcelona econòmica. With Nº 6 in 1990, that changed to Barcelona economia, though it has kept the subtitle Indicadors econòmics de Barcelona, the main identifying feature when it comes to the information's form and content.

From Nº 76 in 2011 to Nº 81 in 2013, the printed version ceased and was replaced by an electronic version, which can be accessed online, to open it up to a wider audience. Barcelona economia later abandoned the magazine format for an online one. Since then it has been published quarterly.

The digitisation of the printed collection, from 1988 to 2011, has been possible thanks to the collaboration between the Gabinet Tècnic de Programació and the Biblioteca General.
