The memory workshop for the elderly: "Picasso in the memory"

Community Outreach Memory Workshop for the Elderly “Picasso in the memory”

The memory workshop for the elderly Picasso in the memory (Picasso in Memory), emerged from conversations with community workers, who identified the need for more possibilities of this kind of service, with the goal of improving the quality of life of a high percentage of elderly residents in the neighbourhood.

The workshop has strived to uphold and strengthen the cognitive capacity of those attending, exploring and delving deeper into the possibilities of art as an excellent training tool for any age group, through the person and work of Pablo Picasso. Its goal is also to encourage and improve social relationships, which at the same time help to maintain healthy neurological capacities. Lasting a period of six months, the workshop project has become a highlight amongst Museu Picasso neighbours.

From the experience acquired in this long-term project, the museum now proposes A Visit to Remember, a single session lasting two hours that other memory workshops for the elderly around Catalonia can carry out at the museum, so as to offer a diversity of activities to the museum’s users.
