posted 27/01/2014 - Redacció Bcn.cat -

Executives from the Spanish State's main energy businesses, businesses with a presence in Latin America, high-level politicians and renowned world experts will be coming together in Barcelona on 27 and 28 January to discuss the role of innovation in the energy industry, its effect on the fight against climate change and, in general, its contribution to society. The event in question is the II International Business Symposium FUNSEAM on Innovation and Sustainable Energy.

Funseam, the Foundation for Energetic and Environmental Sustainability, is a non-profit organisation that began its activities in 2012. Its objectives include the creation of opinion, training, dissemination and advising the energy world, with the aim of being a point of reference in the discussion, analysis and academic research of everything connected to the world of energy.

So Barcelona, which has just risen to fourth place in the rankings of European smart cities and is first in Spain, is a city that has been using new technologies and innovation to improve the quality of people's lives for years. Barcelona is also the leading country in the Mediterranean in terms of R&D, and it is sixth in Europe and 15th in the world in terms of scientific production.

This will be the second edition of the Funseam symposium – the first was held in January 2013, also in Barcelona. The companies taking part include the Repsol Foundation, Endesa, ACS, Enagas, CLH, Gas Natural-Fenosa, FCC, CEPSA and edp.

The Second International Business Symposium FUNSEAM, will be held on 27 and 28 January in Barcelona Science Park. The speakers on the first day are more related to the business world, while on the second day there will be an academic session with participants from the University of Barcelona, the Cambridge Judge Business School, Harvard University, the Geneva Center for Environmental Studies and the European University Institute.
