Visit museums for free!

Museums like the Picasso and Natural Science museums or Disseny Hub Barcelona will be free every Sunday afternoon

If you're one of those who think Sunday afternoon is for staying at home, you'll certainly change your mind. Because, from this Sunday, 5 April, every Sunday afternoon you will be able to go to city municipal museums for free.

This is a Barcelona City Council initiative to promote and spread the cultural heritage of the city and these museums.

So, from this Sunday, between 3 and 8 pm, it will be free to go to the Museu d'Història de Barcelona, the Museu de Ciències Naturals, the Disseny Hub Barcelona, the Jardí Botànic, the Museu Frederic Marès, the Museu Etnològic, the Museu Barbier-Mueller d'Art Precolombí, the Museu Monestir de Predalbes, the Museu de Ceràmica, the Museu Picasso, the Museu de la Música and La Virreina, Centre de la Imatge.

To suit all tastes

That's a big enough range for everyone to find their favourite. For example, if you want to learn about the history of clothes and costumes, you shouldn't miss the Disseny Hub permanent exhibition on at Palau de Pedralbes: "El cos vestit" (The body dressed).

Also at the Hub you can still visit the exhibition "Turisme. Espais de ficció" (Tourism. Places of Fiction), which offers various visions of today's tourism, at the Palau Marquès de Llió.

If you're interested in looking at the role of migratory movements in Barcelona, don't forget to visit the city's Museum of History, where you will find the exhibition "Barcelona transnacional, ciutadans connectats" (Transnational Barcelona, Connected Citizens)

All that without forgetting the permanent exhibitions on at the city's other municipal museums, for example, the Natural Science Museum, with an exhibition that makes everybody aware of the need to protect nature.

Don't forget the Picasso Museum either, which has just acquired some new works by the artist and will soon have enough extra space to become a real research centre.

Other museum initiatives

This initiative supplements the already existing ones, like the fact there is free admission to museums on the first Sunday of the month.

And let's not forget the different kinds of discounts and loyalty cards available, like the Picasso Museum's, or events like the "Nit dels Museus" (Museum Night).

What's more, in an effort to reach out to all members of the public, museums have been boosting their educational and family activities, especially over the Christmas and summer periods.
