“Short stories, major women”, children's storytelling in nine museums now online

The Museu de Ciències Naturals de Barcelona, the Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya, the Museu d’Arqueologia de Catalunya, the Museu Marítim de Barcelona, the Museu Picasso, the Museu del Disseny de Barcelona, the Museus d’Esplugues de Llobregat, the Fundació Joan Miró and the Museu d’Història de Catalunya offer this year in a virtual way, the cycle of storytelling  “Short stories, major women”. The proposal within the cultural offer on the occasion of the International Museum Day, dedicated this year to  “Museums for Equality. Diversity and inclusion”, which will be held virtually given the context of pandemic.

Initially scheduled as an onsite activity in each of the museums, the closure of the facilities by the Covid-19 has moved the initiative to the Internet. A new video storytelling will be offered on YouTube every day from 23rd to 31st May, from 12 noon onwards. The nine videos will be permanently available on this new channel for children. The narratives feature women linked to the history, collections or content of each facility and are all newly created and written by Tramoia Serveis Culturals.

Complementary to the video storytelling, and as a participatory action on social media, this cycle invites young and old to make visible the women who have been or are a reference for everyone. Through the hashtag #PetiteshistoriesGransdones, it is proposed to share drawings, videos, poems, etc. on social networks, as a way of paying tribute to women who are relevant in art, science or any of the other fields.

Video storytelling dedicated to the photographer Colita, who has taken numerous photographs of Catalan artists and singers of the nova cançó, and is considered one of the best portraitists specializing in this genre.

Sunday 24th May- 12.00 noon  Museu Marítim de Barcelona

Video storytelling dedicated to Anne Bonny, the pirate who frightened many crews in the Caribbean Sea during part of the 18th century.

Monday 25th May- 12.00 noon  Museu del Disseny

Video storytelling dedicated to Carolina Montagne, one of the most prestigious dressmakers of the 19th and early 20th centuries in Catalonia and pioneer of the luxury clothing trade.

Tuesday 26th May- 12.00 noon  Museu Picasso

Video storytelling dedicated to Gertrude Stein, writer and collector of modern art.

Wednesday 27th May- 12.00 noon  Fundació Joan Miró

Video storytelling dedicated to Nalini Malani, artist from India, Joan Miró Prize 2019, who will present the exhibition Can you hear me at the Fundació.

Thursday 28th May- 12.00 noon  Museus d’Esplugues de Llobregat

Video storytelling dedicated to the ceramic artist  Angelina Alós.

Friday 29th May- 12.00 noon  Museu d’Arqueologia de Catalunya

Video storytelling dedicated to the archaeologist Adela Ramon Lligué.

Saturday 30th May- 12.00 noon  Museu de Ciències Naturals de Barcelona

Video storytelling dedicated to the Canadian Biruté Galdikas, the most important expert on orangutan behaviour

Sunday 31st May- 12.00 noon  Museu d’Història de Catalunya

Video storytelling dedicated to Roser Rosés, who was sent to the USSR when she was 12 years old to escape from the Civil War but found there the miseries of exile and the harshness of the Second World War.
