Seminar on patronage, donations and the repercussions of the project for the new law
PUBLIC COLLECTIONS THANKS TO PRIVATE EFFORTS

15, 22 and 29 November 2012

The Francisco Godia Foundation and the Museu Picasso propose this seminar as an exploration into the various ways in which private impetuses generate public heritage: art collecting, patronage, donation of works and the various legal frameworks that promote and facilitate this transfer of cultural goods to the society.

The reflection takes on special relevance in this moment in which the new Law of Patronage is being drawn up, and in which the revision of exemplary cases and their debate are especially valid at the current time. Therefore, this seminar emerges from the necessary involvement that both of private collectors and public institutions should have in this process.

This reflection is also an expression of the reciprocal gratitude generated when a private collection becomes a public one: gratitude from the donor to society and at the same time, gratitude from the society for this donation, which broadens its cultural wealth.
