Photography Workshops - Collaboration Project

One of the aims of the Museu Picasso in Barcelona is to establish working areas of cooperation with universities and the academic world in general. This collaboration will take the form of projects that Museu Picasso will undertake in order to foster student participation and so make the Museum a space for dialogue and for learning.
On the occasion of the exhibition entitled Lee Miller: Picasso in private, there are a number of activities programmed, including two photography workshops in conjunction with the Fine Arts Faculty of Barcelona University and the Catalan Institute of Photographic Studies. Here are some of the photographs fruit.

TALLER IEFC / IEFC WORKSHOP
6/07/07 - 29/07/07

Within the framework of the exhibition titled Lee Miller: Picasso in private, the directors of Museu Picasso and the Catalan Photography Institute (IEFC) agreed to undertake a joint activity directed at the students of the photography school, related to the theme of the exhibition. Within their course on Portraits, part of the second year of the General Photography Course, one of the subjects they have to work on is ‘the person and their surroundings', and ‘the person and their job'. That was why we proposed the students of this subject took part in the exhibition.
The project consists of creating an experimental development of a set of photographs and of reflection on these themes. The result is a small set of 3 photographs, a very personal vision of an artist as subject of a portrait: the person, their life, their work, the places they work in, their activities or other themes that use perspectives related to portrait photography, to the work itself, to symbols, etc. and following guidelines taught within the subject. The photographic technique, that can be in black and white or colour, using film or digital photography, with copies measuring 20x30 cm. approximately. As well as field work for the students, there are a series of group sessions to standardise materials and criteria.

These projects emerged from a photography workshop at the hands of both teachers and students from the last year of ‘The Itinerary of Image'. They centre around thematic content from the exhibition: family, masks, circus and époque photography. The students have had a free rein to choose the theme and idea they preferred to work on.
