Màster "Pensar l'Art d'Avui" (Repensar Picasso)

Master's "Thinking the Art of Today"

The Museu Picasso in Barcelona is one of the centres of the network of postgraduate studies and research generated from the European master's degrees "Thinking the Art of Today" (60 ECTS credits) and "The Grammar of Contemporary Art" (60 ECTS credits). These masters are organised by the Department of Philosophy at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) and a city network of art museums and centres: the Museu Picasso in Barcelona, Fundació Joan Miró, MACBA and La Pedrera. The course directors are Jèssica Jaques and Gerard Vilar, Professors of Aesthetics and Theory of Art, respectively, at the UAB.

"Thinking the Art of Today" is a master's degree for students wishing to pursue postgraduate studies in the philosophy and theory of contemporary and avant-garde art. The module Rethinking Picasso will be delivered at the Museu Picasso in Barcelona. Its overarching goal is to take a fresh look at the first narratives put forward on the artist and to re-examine his work within the context of contemporary art theory. It is coordinated by Pepe Serra, Director of the Museu Picasso in Barcelona.

"The Grammar of Contemporary Art" is a research master's, specially designed for students wishing to pursue a master's thesis of high academic standards, if necessary in preparation for a doctoral thesis on contemporary and avant-garde art theory. Each year yields approximately twenty master's theses and, subsequently, a number of doctoral theses. The module Artistic Writing Workshop is delivered at the Museu Picasso and is coordinated by Joan Minguet, Professor of Art History at the UAB.
