Exhibition dedicated to Oleguer Junyent (Barcelona, 1876-1956), a painter, set designer, decorator, collector, antiquarian, amateur photographer and passionate traveller, Junyent is popularly known for the journey around the world he took in 1908 and for the illustrated story of this journey which he published two years later as Roda el món i torna al Born (Round the World and Back to the Born).

On this occasion, the Arxiu Fotogràfic de Barcelona (Photograph Archive of Barcelona) and the Museu Frederic Marès are offering an exhibition project devoted to the figure of this multifaceted artist from Barcelona, with exhibitions in both sites and a joint catalogue. Yet far from being anthological, this project focuses solely on Junyent’s facets as an art collector and amateur photographer.

The exhibition at the Museu Frederic Marès shows Oleguer Junyent from the perspective of art collecting and reveals the relationship between him and Frederic Marès. The exhibition displays a selection of the most important works from his collection, especially the Catalan medieval art – which is still cared for by his descendants – as well as the sculptures from the Museum which had been part of the Junyent Collection at some point, most of them Romanesque and Gothic.
